My brothers cried Essay Originally is a poem set upon the main themes of growing up. By looking at the poem in depth, I have come to a conclusion that Carol Ann Duffy is the persona who is writing with a childs perspective as when she was a child. In verse one, The poet creates a sense of noise and chaos by saying how each member of her family are making noise and moving. Mother singing My brothers cried both of these quotes contribute to the feeling of noise and chaos. Two metaphors, which are found in the poem by Carol Ann Duffy, could be fell through the fields miles rushed back. They show that they were in the countryside. It also shows that they are using some form of transport, which may be train or car. I assumed by reading the poem that the reader was a young girl, and when she is sitting down where on the journey, it feels like you are stationary so it feels as if everything is rushing towards yourself. This demonstrates the Childs prospective. On the last line of the first verse, the metaphor shows that the young girl is looking at one of her toys, which maybe a bear with button eyes, and as she has grown up a fraction more than she was, she may now understand that toys do not have feelings, and they are only buttons as the eyes so they cannot really see things. She makes us feel like a child is commenting here because when youre at such a young age, you think that toys really do live on their own world and they have the same senses as us. I. e. touch, taste, feel, hear, pain etc. I think that the whole poem focuses mainly on sudden interruptions because from each paragraph is a different age section of her life. You can also see by the poem that as each paragraph develops, the way it is written and the style of wording develops, as if the child is becoming increasingly mature and adult-like. The Childs vulnerability is shown in verse two by using such words as big boys eating worms and shouting words you didnt understand perhaps this is hinting that maybe the big boys who were eating worms were swearing or saying words which she was too young to have come across. The last word in verse two is italicised because the narrator (who is a daughter) is speaking and it also shows that she is missing where she used to live as a child. In verse three, the child is less vulnerable now she has settled in because she is now used to everything. But then you forget this shows that now the narrator has lived for quite a few years, she tends to forget her past easier. The narrator now speaks in a comforted tone and gives away the idea of being a lot more worried about life in general as compared to when she was younger and slightly unsure about moving. Now that she has fitted in well, she now understands how it feels like to be part of their community. The change is compared to the shedding of a snakes skin. They are compared with each other because it is in conjunction with her voice changing i. e. maybe she has changed language or they use a different accent. Or simply her voice could have just changed with age. Now that she is used to the changes, she feels as if she has completely lost her old voice I lost a river, culture, speech, sense of first space This could potentially be a good or bad thing but we assume it is for good because she prefers being accepted and fitting in when she didnt think she would ever. The person created in the poem, we could comfortably say that it is a girl, even though no evidence backs up this statement. I assume by reading between the lines that she is around the age of 8-12 because on the journey, she sees thing not as clearly as adults do. My voice in the classroom sounding just like the rest This also shows that she is a school pupil so she must be fairly young. The setting in the poem is created by the feelings shown by the young girl. Fell through the fields This shows that they used to live in the country side, but they moved to a rural area where flats and estates can be found Pebble-dashed estates So maybe the girl is unsure of the area when she realises that where she is moving to is a lot more busy and lively. The use of 3 verses is a very good idea for several reasons. For one, it defines the maturing of her age, which is put across using methods such as different tones of voice, and more complex metaphors and sentences. The whole poem could be mapped out as journey. The first verse demonstrates the beginning of her life and when the family move. Second verse indicating the actual journey, and the becoming older stage, whilst trying to get used to moving. With the last verse when she has settled in her new area, and it has a quote on the last line which demonstrates her socialising with her friends, and seems to have fitted in really well.

Plates were then incubated for 4 days at 30 ° C, however due to failed growth in the transformation plates for pPC86DMID1 (both yeast strains), and an additional set of results had to be obtained. The spread-plated results for each strain, transformation, result source, and their associated control cases can be seen in Table 2, with a â€Å"Yes† growth observation referring to confluent growth and â€Å"No† for non-confluent growth. Following the incubation period, each of the 6 transformation plates were sampled and underwent 4x 10-fold serial dilutions, which were then spot-tested to either an SC-Leu-Trp, or SC-Leu-Trp-His (minus Histidine) medium. Each strain-transformation occupied half of each plate, with a spot per dilution level (Figure 1). An additional set of spot-tests were also performed to test for auto-activation of the a4 bait protein, using a strain transformed with an unmodified pPC86 plasmid (MaV203+pDBLeuDa4+pPC86). The lack of growth for the DBB variant suggested the B-box region was a requirement for interaction/binding with the a4 protein, while the coiled-coil domain didn’t appear to be a requirement. Its removal however did result in noticeably decreased growth rates when compared to the full-length control test, suggesting its removed resulted in some level of decreased interaction with a4, whether it usually stabilised the binding process, or is removal disrupted the overall form and binding site is unknown, and would require additional testing. However given the external result source, it could have been that group’s sampling and dilution methods had resulted in decreased cell viability, though a simple retest could rule this out, and would be a good starting point to determine any interactions with the coiled-coil domain.

These last five weeks in EXP 105 has really helped me learn a lot about learning in general, and also it has helped me to understand myself as a learner. If I had to explain the concept of learning to someone who has not yet taken this class, I would tell them that it is simply knowing who you are as learner and knowing what are your intentions are when it comes to learning. Intentions alone play a big part in learning because that is the ultimate goal; becoming an intentional learner. An intentional learner knows how to approach learning by developing skills to read, write, and think critically. I always felt that learning itself was a full time job, but this class changed that view by teaching me how to learn, and also what my weak and strong points were. This helps you to manage time, and learning no longer feels like it takes forever. In this class we were given a learning connections inventory (LCI). It was a short survey to help us identify our learning patterns. My LCI scores were as follows: Sequence 27, Precision 28. Technical Reasoning 20, and Confluence 17. Sequence and precision are my two use first learning patterns. I use these patterns on the regular. I am a very organized person and I like to make sure that I have all the information that is necessary before I perform a task. I use technical reasoning as needed, and then I avoid Confluence. Confluence requires a lot of creativity and that is the area I lack in the most so I try to stay away from it as much as I can. No matter how we use our learning patterns though, it always comes a time where we must use them all whether we realize it or not. Sometimes it is necessary to combine all of the learning patterns to get a full understanding of what is happening, or supposed to happen. The benefits of knowing your unique learning patterns are for one you already know how you should approach different tasks to get them done. It takes the guesswork out and saves you time to go back and finish something you did not  understand later. While learning patterns are strong tools to have in your tool box by themselves, sometimes it is necessary to have strategies to go along with them. When it comes to sequence I do not always think that a strategy is necessary because it is always important for things to be organized for them to look neat and flow smoothly when it comes too writing at least, and that is how I tried to think about every learning pattern and assignment in this class. My strategy for mu use first precision is to keep it at a minimum without being boring, less really is more sometimes. Technical reasoning will remain as it is since it is use as needed. I definitely know that my strategy for confluence was to intensify it a little more so that I can try to warm up to it and try to incorporate it into more of my assignments. The way that I took advantage of my strengths in this course was actually using them when I was completing assignments. The biggest challenge of my learning patterns was figuring out when and how to use them. It gradually got better once we discussed FITing and decoding assignments. It did not take long for me to grasp those concepts and after that everything became clear and it all made sense on hoe it all fit together. That solved the problem of the learning patterns being hard to understand when it came to using them to complete assignments in the course. I didn’t get to use the FITing concept until the end, but I wish I would have known about it earlier. I definitely plan to use it in my future courses because it makes everything easier to understand and I enjoyed doing it. I didn’t think of it as extra unnecessary work. It was more like a map to me to tell me what I should do. In the future I will also use more of the library and student resources to help me with FITing. The thing that I enjoyed the most about this class w being given the opportunity to learn about myself and who I am as a learner. I definitely feel different about learning and I plan to use everything I learned in this course in future courses. My favorite assignments to do in this class were the LCI and then the FITing and decoding assignment. To make the class a little better and more fun I think at least another variation of the LCI should be included. I had taken online courses before so all of my expectations were met. I enjoyed this class overall.

This is the standard phrase explaining what white supremacy is and has dominated the mentality of our country for decades. It has been prevalent all over the US. The only difference is that in the south, it seems to have been more amplified than in the north. Question: Should a company only focus on making a profit? Answer: Introduction Organizations have become competitive enough and in order to sustain in the market, profit is generally selected as the main criteria that indicates corporate growth (Szelenyi 2012). On the other hand, most of the multi-national organizations have started to proceed beyond profit making. Factors such as employee satisfaction, consumer relationship and corporate social responsibility are found to create a brand image and consumer loyalty for a concerned organization (Huang 2012). Therefore, profit must not be the only factor that instigates organizational development rather organizations need to think of other factors that will satisfy its stakeholders to enhance the competitive era in both vertical and horizontal markets. In this essay, factors on which an organization needs to focus will be discussed critically. Discussion Counter-argument- According to Tokatli (2012), organizations try to ensure visible profit enlargement through direct methods of sales maximization. Often the organizations try to cut cost so that operational cost is reduced and revenue earning is not altered. Rebuttal- Thus, it can be said that organizations need to ensure a balance between its operational activities and profit maximization so that its assets are not exploited beyond optimized level. Argument- On the other hand, Xie, Rui and Cao (2012) argued that if an organization tries to reduce its cost of operation by increasing the amount of resource utilization, then the tenure or longevity of the asset might be reduced. Therefore, organizations need to create unique strategies other than direct profit generation, which will include consumer satisfaction, CSR activities and employee engagement. Evidence- For example, if Walmart is considered, then it can be said that the organization has tried to keep a balance between its sup ply chain and capital conservation, by ensuring a good relationship with the suppliers. Counter-argument- According to Menguc et al. (2013), manufacturing organizations try to reduce the cost of operation by reducing the number of employees so that without increasing the price of finished goods, the amount of revenue is increased. On the other hand, wages of the employees are not increased but they are forced to work beyond their limit. This though results in cost cutting, but employees are not able to sustain in the organization. Hence, this creates a negative impact on the organization. Rebuttal- Therefore can be said that if an organization directly thinks of profit making by squeezing its present assets, then in turn profit will be hampered. Argument- Breevaart et al. (2014) pointed out that if employees are not retained then surely, productivity will be reduced and therefore in turn, customer will not be satisfied. On the other hand, Menguc et al. (2013) pointed out that if employees are satisfied then it will be reflected in their performance and thereby profit wi ll be maximized. Anitha (2014) opined that most of the organizations try to think directly of profit maximization by deregulating its tangible assets but if such organizations try to value its intangible assets such as employee satisfaction then in turn more profit and long-term development will be achieved. Evidence- For example, the Indian company, Reliance Digital is one such organization, that tries to satisfy its employees first and then its clients, which has ultimately resulted in indirect profit. Counter-argument- According to Truss et al. (2013), the main motive of the organizations has been sales maximization and for that, they do not initiate any post-serve involvement. Such organizations feel that post-services increases the cost of business as such services are to be allowed free of cost. Argument- Tirunillai and Tellis (2014) opined that through free post services the gap between the consumer and management is reduced. Therefore, it can be said that organizations need to strengthen consumer relationship by free post service for their products. Free post sales service will enhance consumer satisfaction and in turn, the amount of sales will be increased. If consumers are satisfied, then brand loyalty will be enhanced and more number of people will be involved with one particular organization (Truss et al. 2013). If an organization is able to retain its employees then, market share will be increased. With increase in market share, more amounts of sales will happen in futur e, which indicates growth of an organization. Rebuttal- Therefore, it can be said that consumer satisfaction needs to be enhanced so that brand loyalty is increased, which will in turn raise the profit for an organization. The discussion even gives the result that organizations will be able to raise the bar of product diversification and thereby reduce the risk of operation if amount of demand is sustained through brand enhancement. Evidence- For example, Dell is one such organization, which ensures free post-service for its clients, which has though increased the cost of operation but has resulted in extending the relationship with clients. Counter-argument- According to Schneider and Schmidpeter (2012), corporate social responsibility is not ensured by medium scale organizations as they find increase in cost of operation due to added responsibilities. This raised the bar of consumer satisfaction and increased amount of sales, which ultimately increased the yearly revenue. Argument- Korschun, Bhattacharya and Swain (2014) pointed out that as Tesco started to sell products through tin cans, they found certain amount of operational cost was increased, which was far less than the increment in sales. Thus, finally, it was the benefit for Tesco as number of sales was increased. Aguinis and Glavas (2012) argued that small scale organizations try to reduce the cost of production and for them attaining CSR does not ensure higher profit as such organizations are in the growing stage. On the other hand, Cheng, Ioannou and Serafeim (2014) counter argued that consumers are not only attracted to products particularly, but they are l oyal to the organization as a whole. Servaes and Tamayo (2013) pointed out that with CSR activities organizations will be able to reach towards the consumers, which more motive of satisfaction, which will raise the sales in near future. Rebuttal- Thus, if from the initial stage, small scale organizations implant the idea of CSR through basic innovation, then surely brand loyalty will be enhanced. Ultimate cost of products will be increased but that may not affect the demand, as consumers are highly aware of quality and prefer quality to price. However, ultimate motive of an organization is profit maximization, but in order to achieve this it needs to reach indirectly towards its consumers with more brand loyalty programs through corporate social responsibilities. Evidence- If Tesco Plc. is considered, then it can be found that food items were sold via plastic packaging until the year 2011, but with the rising demand of healthy edibles from the early 2012, it started to sell edible p roducts in tin cans instead of plastic packets in the UK (O'Shea et al. 2013). Conclusion While concluding, it can be said that organizations need to ensure indirect profit maximization. However, organizations are trying to increase sales by diversification of portfolio but they are not taking care of their internal strategies. From the above discussion, it is clear that organizations need to ensure reduction of gap with consumers, which can be raised only by consumer satisfaction. If consumers are satisfied, then they can be retained for longer term, which will enhance the profit maximization. Therefore, organizations need to concentrate on CSR activities, employee engagement and consumer relationship, which will ultimately raise the profit earning capability in near future. After completing the analysis, it can be ensured that organization must not only focus on profit making, but at the same time, it needs to ensure that its employees and consumers are satisfied, which will in turn increase the amount of sales. Recommendation From the critical analysis, it has been found that organizations need to ensure employee satisfaction, which can be raised by reward and recognition several other fringe benefits. These benefits will increase employee participation, which will raise the bar of quality service. CSR activities such as sustainable environment programs will raise the consumer loyalty. Such programs may be reduction in plastic usage and carbon footprint. Finally, consumer relationship can be strengthened by ensuring free post sales service and for that new customer support executives are to be hired.
